cylinders

Layers of transparent silk organza depict geologic imagery within metal cylindrical forms. Drill core, pipelines, and smoke stacks are a few examples of how this form is utilized in the extraction industry. In this work, the cylinder is suggestive of a protective container of earth in situ, where layers are unaltered by human exploration and extraction. The installation encourages the viewer to reflect on our complex relationship with geologic materials.
